Time magazine belittles deaf and blind Helen Keller as ‘just another privileged white person’

The following contains editorial content written by a retired Chief of Police and current staff writer for Law Enforcement Today.

USA- The same liberal rag that just honored Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as it’s “Person(s) of the Year” instead of maybe, the front-line medical professionals who have been working tirelessly on the pandemic, or God forbid President Trump for his stewardship over Operation Warp Speed has hit a new low.

TIME Magazine actually did a hit piece on Helen Keller, declaring her to be “just another privileged white person.” TIME…do they actually still even publish a magazine?

For those not well versed, Helen Keller was the victim of an undiagnosed illness which rendered her blind and deaf by the age of 19 months old.

Despite all the odds facing her, and in spite of her disabilities and the lack of resources at that time, she raised millions of dollars for the disabled, according to The Blaze.

She also published 12 books and was a leading proponent in the fight for women’s suffrage and rights of disabled Americans.

Keller graduated from Radcliffe College, now known as Harvard University and was the co-founder of the American Civil Liberties Union.

Keller was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which is the highest civilian honor available to average Americans. All of those accomplishments were apparently not good enough for Time.

The article was written by Olivia Waxman and sought to dismiss Keller’s achievements.

A woman named Anita Cameron spoke of Keller, claiming that Keller was not radical, but rather was “just another, despite disabilities, privileged white person,’ calling her story “another example of history telling the story of privileged white Americans.” Wow.

Cameron describes herself as a “fierce black autistic lesbian.” She’s apparently into all the woke labels. She is also a member of the American Disabled for Attendant Programs Today organization, her Twitter profile notes, and of course she’s displaying the heretofore unknown “Black Disabled Lives Matter” banner.

It was that comment that got TIME attention it probably did not want.

Keller clearly had some less than mainstream, ostensibly radical views. For example, TIME noted, “Critics of Helen Keller cite her writings that reflected the popularity of now-dated eugenics theories and her friendship with one of the movement’s supporters Alexander Graham Bell,” TIME said. However TIME added that, “The American Foundation for the Blind archivist Helen Selsdon says Keller ‘moved away from that position.’”

TIME sought to emphasize Keller’s more socialist and radical left-wing ideology as she moved from childhood to an adult.

TIME said most students who learn about Keller “don’t learn that she co-founded the American Civil Liberties Union in 1920; that she was an early supporter of the NAACP, and an opponent of lynching; that she was an early proponent of birth control.”

Call us crazy but those positions don’t sound all that radical compared to the radicals pervasive in America today, and in fact indicate Keller would be pretty comfortable at a support rally for Black Lives Matter. One would think liberals would be all over this.

In fact, Keller “was a member of the Socialist Party, and corresponded with Eugene Debs, the party’s most prominent member and a five-time presidential candidate,” TIME said. “She also read Marx, and her associations with all of these far-left groups landed her on the radar of the FBI, which monitored her for ties to the Communist Party.”

Call us crazy, but all of this is right up the left-wing alley one would think. Ah, but one problem…she had “white privilege,” which is why some think her radical tendencies have been glossed over.

In fact, a transcript of the video goes as follows, in part:

NARRATOR: “Still, Helen Keller’s prominence is another reminder of how our American history often focuses on the stories of wealthy white people.”

ANITA CAMERON: “I don’t have a perspective on Helen Keller. She’s just another, despite disabilities, privileged white person.”

ANITA CAMERON: “I am a black disabled Lesbian who happens to be poor. You know, you want to talk about intersectionality’s and marginalization’s I’m looking up from the bottom.”

ANITA CAMERON: “…and I’m just out here trying to not only fight for the rights of all disabled but wanting to highlight even among disabled, there are those of us whose stories don’t get told.”

The piece then goes on to talk about Cameron and a group of demonstrators, part of a disability rights group called ADAPT who went to the U.S. Capitol and demanded the passing of the Americans With Disabilities Act in 1990. Cameron bragged that she was number 81 out of 104 people arrested.

NARRATOR: “The fight for disability rights is far from over, but the ADA was a milestone achievement. It completely changed the way people with disabilities lived, and recognized people with disabilities as people with civil rights. Helen Keller is certainly not the only disability rights champion we should be learning about…”

The targeting of Keller got the attention of people on Twitter.

“This is INSANE,” said Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R). “Woke Lefties are now attacking Helen Keller?? As ‘just another, despite disabilities, privileged white person??’”

“There are many adjectives one can use to describe the extraordinary Helen Keller,” Cruz added. “Privileged is not one of them.”

Donald Trump Jr. also weighed in:

“Holy shit…they’re now canceling Helen Keller for being white. You can’t make this crap up anymore. You can never be woke enough.”

In fact, a satire account called Titiania McGrath said Friday how she had “predicted” Keller would be “called out” by the “woke” for having “white privilege.”

The account was created by British comedian Andrew Doyle. He posted the following:

“TITIANIA’S PREDICTIONS (part 10) On 7 March 2019, I published my book WOKE in which I called out Helen Keller for her white privilege,” the post from the account said. “On 15 December 2020, Time Magazine concurred.”

Another person who slammed the wokeness of the article was Mary Vought, executive director of the Senate Conservative Fund.

“As a mother to a child with a disability, this is extremely offensive. Helen Keller dedicated her life to advocating for those with disabilities and illness. To suddenly cancel her now because of her skin color is not only outrageous, it’s racist,” she said.

In a tweet, Vought said, “You’ve got to be kidding me. The woke mob is now going after Helen Keller for being white. Nevermind the advancements she worked to achieve for those with disabilities.”

“Anyone that helps fight for those with ailments is a hero, not a villain,” Vought said. “It doesn’t matter what color their skin is!”

That’s the woke mob for you. Nothing or nobody is sacred. Not even Helen Keller.
